A self-proclaimed “music and media anorak”, UK-born Kris MacCormack’s association with both has lasted a lifetime. His late father was the legendary Sierra Leonean musician Bunny Mack (1945-2015) and this exposed him to numerous genres of music that he heard, appreciated and loved from a young age. Initially toying with the idea of being a broadcaster in his teens, he spent years building up a huge collection of music thus leading to various DJ stints over the years and also became a “go to” man for many DJ peers when it came to sought-after old tunes.
Kris’ close association with Capital Radio started in 2007 when he heard the then-new station while on his first trip to Sierra Leone since leaving school in the early 90s. He wasted no time in contacting Nicky Spencer-Coker through a mutual friend which led to him auditioning in 2008. After doing some voice over work for the station he finally became a presenter with Capital Radio in April 2011, hosting most of the station’s flagship shows in his inimitable way which includes occasionally offbeat humour, and effortless music knowledge which has seen him labelled as a “music encyclopaedia” by many peers.
